Thank God for SNOT

Yesterday a friend of mine was over and we were sitting at the kitchen table talking and Ana Claire was sitting with us doing some of her crafts. A bead craft to be exact. Do you know where I am going with this? She plays with beads all the time and never once has she stuck one where she shouldn't. Well yesterday she did. Out of the blue she announced she stuck one up her nose. I asked her to repeat herself and she just burst into tears and started freaking out. I laid her down and shined a flashlight up her nose and sure enough there was a bead lodged snuggly in her nostril. Well we immediately left for the pediatrician's office. Clay did this when he was younger but he stuck a rock up his nose. I tried to explain to her that she had to calm down, not to sniff etc.... I tried to explain to her that there would be NO SHOTS! The dr would just put a little tool up her nose pull the bead out and we would be on our way home. She was scary calm in the car until we reached the doctors office. Then she totally freaked out screaming and crying. All eyes were on us when we went into the doctors office. I was signing in and the nurse was about to escort us back and she said oh no her nose is starting to bleed. I looked and I said no, that is the bead. I pushed down on her nostril and out popped the bead in a glob of snot. Thank God for snot. ;) I was so relieved that it came out and we didn't have to hold her down to get it out. That would have been traumatizing for all of us.
I know you all probably have a story like this that you can share so please comment me and share yours.

Jasmine did the exact same thing with the exact same kind of bead, I ended up getting it out myself with a pair of tweezers, she also stuck a popcorn kernel up her nose...kids! lol

Lisa,
Poor Ana Claire and poor you. Way to stay calm...I would have freaked out. Paige stuck a bean up her nose when she was three. Luckily, I was in Florida and missed the drama. This would be the one time that I would love to see snot : )
Thanks for your sweet message on my blog. Actually, I am making headway in the new room. This too shall pass!
Have a great, trauma free rest of the week!

Hey Lisa!
Amen for snot! She's so cute holding that little bead!
I was a K teacher so I had quite the experiences with things up noses, in ears, etc.!
I love the necklaces below! What a great gift idea too! Thank you for sharing!

P.S. We were in your neck of the woods yesterday and my husband of all people said "Don't you have a bloggin' friend down this way?" and then it dawned on me...WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh me. Ugh me! I'm so mad at myself. Sigh.

Bless her heart. I know that had to be scary for her.
I love the new look of your blog. It is pretty.

Thank goodness the bead came out and the doctor didn't have to extract it! How scary, but what a brave girl. Knock on wood none of my kids have put anything in their noses. My oldest did swallow one of those little, tiny batteries when he was hiding it from his brother in his mouth! Wouldn't life be boring without our kids?!

Oh Poor Mom and poor sweet Anna Claire. I guess you have to learn some lessons the hard way as a kid. My little Emma stuck some of the thin licorice up her nose while we were driving. I pulled over and tried to pull it out but it broke leaving some in her nose. We had an hour drive home yet or to the urgent care ... which is where I was heading. All the crying caused it to work it's way out!!

Poor Ana Claire! I am so glad that you were able to get it out before she had to go back and let the dr do it. I can imagine how scared she must have been. I think I would have been scared too. I actually went to the dr today and had to get a tb test done. I have had one done before and knew what to expect, but I was SO nervous. I can totally relate to her...I hate shots and the drs office. I am so glad the ordeal is over for her.

Ha! I did that when I was little, only it was foam rubber I pulled out of the back of a recliner...no one knew I even did it until a couple of days later. My mom noticed an awful odor every time she got close to me! So gross! Thank goodness for the pediatrician, or I could have been known as the "smelly girl!"

what kid hasn't stuck SOMETHING up their nose?? Mine tore off a corner of a baby wipe & shoved it up there while we were driving down the road! I had to pull over & run inside a hotel to ask if they had tweezers or something!! So Scary!!

Oh my!! What a traumatic day for you and Ana Claire!! I'm so thankful for snot too!!!

We haven't had a nose issue before, but I remember a time when Joshua had swallowed a magnet!! YEP - a magnet and I freaked!!! The doctor told me to keep an eye on his poop and sure enough - out it came... I was relieved! Now we don't have magnets in our house at all...

The magnet had fallen off the back of one of the porcelain/ceramic made fruits - it's about the size of a dime.... At first I didn't know what it was and then realized what is was (apparently it had fallen off the fridge door and broke off), but by that time...... I saw him put it in his mouth and it was too late!!!!!!

Oh my goodness....She did exactly what Ms. Connie did when she was little. I still remember going to the doctor with my Mom and Granddaddy. I had put a "red" button up my nose and the doctor had to remove it. Wow...what a fond memory this brought back. (haha).
Glad Ms. Ana Claire is doing better without any doctors.
Love
Connie

I think all kids try to stick things in their noses and ears! My Sean stuck a dry bean in his ear. He also swallowed a nickel! That is no fun for moms, if you get my meaning.....
Glad it came out so easily for AC. There's enough trauma in life.

I have a similiar story..only the bead I sucked up my nose is still there 30 years later. Guess I'll have to live with mine or have surgery to remove it. Glad AC is doing well.

I've got 3 kiddos, and none have ever stuck anything up their noses (to my knowledge!) lol

I'm so glad she told you, and the snot brought it out!

You'll look back on this one and laugh someday, if you're not laughing already!
